It was the second public forum in a series devoted to life sciences and intellectual property to be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and will focus on current issues in intellectual property and public health, a topic that raises some years the attention of the international community and debate among its members.
The symposium Life Sciences on the current issues of intellectual property in connection with public health aims to provide an overview of the many issues related to these that are under discussion in international forums. A group of representatives Member States of WIPO, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), civil society and business will share their views on topical issues and will highlight the priorities that are now theirs in this area. This overview of a half-day on the current situation will give a snapshot of current debates and policy mechanisms in place that will listen a range of views on current issues and help clarify the relationship between these views and what distinguishes them.
Symposia organized by WIPO on the life sciences and intellectual property policies tend to identify and specify the dimensions that make the life sciences on intellectual property. They cover a wide range of stakeholders including international policymakers, government agencies, legislators, delegates, civil society and the private sector. These seminars are a forum to exchange information and experiences on the use and impact of system IP in the science of life without trying to influence or try the debates taking place in other forums.
